Coventry Boys and Girls Club -The MAC Project
Our biggest project to date! We had the pleasure of recording a documentary for the Coventry Boys and Girls Club to show the amazing work that they continue to do. This included the production of voice overs and interviewing the staff that work at this youth group. The first voiceover that can be heard in the video below was already pre-recorded using a Sennheiser microphone. However, the quality on the recording was not the best so I used some post editing tools in premiere pro to adjust the audio to suit. This helped to get rid of all the unwanted background noise in the voice over. When recording the interviews, we used one lapel mic and one shot gun mic to attempt to record the best possible audio. We attempted to find an acoustically treated room to record in to prevent as many echoes as possible but since none were available at the time, we settled for a room with the most stuff in the background to help reduce reverberation. The room had plenty of couches and other soft materials. In addition we positioned the interviewers facing the soft materials to prevent their voice immediately hitting the walls and reverberating. One may wonder why we needed to do this even though we were using a shotgun microphone but this was purely because we did not have a boom stand available to us. We were limited in how close we could get the audio to the interviewee. We therefore opted to use the shotgun microphone audio as background audio and use the lapel as our main audio source. As usual, we edited the lapel microphone audio in post and this time we included dereverberation on our audio to make it sound more crisp.
