Radman - On The Rise

The series has been going well for a decent amount of time. The time has now come for me to use the audio engineering skills I have learnt over the past year to produce a piece of work that is sonically appealing. Using knowledge from a university module that I completed on the designing of a studio, I attempted to find a studio in Coventry built with similar acoustic treatment to the studio I designed for my assessment. After a week of research, I found a studio at the venue Positive Youth Foundation who were undergoing renovations of their studio. Similarly to my design they used a variety of quality diffusers and reflectors in their renovation which lead to them being my final choice. The equipment used inside the studio was also of a high quality and I was able to record my vocals on a Rode NT1-A. Rode have been in the microphone game for a while and I was pleased with the sound quality that the microphone produced. It was effectively able to cut out a decent amount of the low frequency rumble allowing a simple EQ to remove the rest. We also used some other studio basics including a pop filter to reduce any plosive sound. Regarding the mixing, as I don’t have a particularly deep voice we kept some of the lower frequencies of my vocal both in the compression and the EQ. When it came to mastering, I’ll be honest we didn’t do as much of a thorough job apart from using the limiter plug-in to make sure the audio was balanced and loud enough for streaming services.
